OncoClub Trichy, in association with Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), Trichy and IAP – TTKPN Chapter, organized a one day CME and quiz programme on Paediatric Haemato-Oncology on 17th November 2013 at Hotel Breeze Residency, Trichy.Since the programme was intended for the post graduates, registration was free and case discussions were exam oriented.Dr.Venkataraman Radhakrishnan, Cancer Institute, spoke on ‘Approach to Leukocytosis and Management of Paediatric Leukemias’.This was followed by Dr.Muthuram’s lecture on ‘Vaccination for a Child onChemotherapy’.The session was chaired by Dr.Suresh Chelliah, consultant paediatrician, Dr.G.K Rath, consultant pathologist and Dr.Akbar Ali, consultant paediatrician.
The first Panel Discussion on ‘Approach to Abdominal Mass’ presented by Dr.Julius Scott, Sri Ramachandra Medical College, was chaired by Prof.Dr.R.Mohan, paediatric surgeon, Dr.V.Sarada, pathologist and Prof.Dr.Prabhu Elango. Dr.Scott shared his knowledge and experience with the post graduates, who had a field day raising queries and gaining much from live interaction with experts in the field.
The second Panel Discussion was on ‘Childhood Cancers in South India’ by Dr.Arun Seshachalam, Medical and Paediatric Oncologist, followed by a capsule on Tumor Lysis Management by Dr.S.Sudharshana.The session was chaired by paediatricians Dr.J.Lakshmi Narayanan, Prof.Dr.K.Muthukumar and Dr.P.R.Rathnam. Dr.Sridharan, paediatric surgeon, made a presentation on ‘ Demonstration and Safe Handling of Implantable Port/PICC Line’ which was very interesting for the post graduates.The quiz programme provided a few nail biting moments for the participants.The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
The CME carried 5 accreditation points by the Tamilnadu Dr.MGR Medical University.
